![]() The last train ride is 4:00 for dinner at the Deep River Boat. Overall the boat ride was much more enjoyable over the train ride. One site is a castle high on a mountain top, which is owned by an actor or allowed to live there. During the cruise a narrator will give a good idea of what to see. During the cruise, people will view yachts-still or cruising-, speed boats & one or two water skiers. The train stops at the Dep River Point to drop off the it's present passengers & pick up the passengers just coming from the boat ride. The boat ride or cruise was much more interesting & entertaining, which last probably 45 minutes. The biggest site will be the marina, where the boat ride is located. At times the train will pass by a village or street with the stop lights flashing the locomotive's horn blowing. During the ride all a passenger will view are trees, rock cliffs, bushes and part of the Connecticut River and small streams. During the ride, conductor Peter gave a narration about the train's history. The train consist one locomotive, coal car and six passenger cars, with one not being used. Overall the train ride was not all great. All staff members are dressed in 1920's uniforms. Restrooms are located on the opposite side of the ticket booth. The gift shop is small, however thee is enough items to spend your money on. Just outside the gift shop is a picnic area with six tables. Walking toward the ticket booth is a brick walkway with the 10 benches. This was all done handheld, low light, but this is what it was like to be on the Polar Express. Before I get to the rides, first will review the train station/depot. And the best train set ever, with a drive through McDonalds. All in a cool old building strung with white lights. It could have been full of regular kids stuff.but instead, they get to be a star, drive a train, steer a boat, or be a mermaid. Whoever did the inside of this building has such a coolness to them, such great spirit. Not only did I absolutely love the train ride (big ups to Princess Snowflake for WORKING it and singing her heart out the whole time!) but I loved the train museum located right at the platform. In our pajama's, of course! And I brought a sack of reindeer ears, because you know I have to make everything Sassy. So, when Aunt Ginny said she wanted to go on Essex's North Pole Express this year, you know I was pretty excited!! Essex's Steam Train is a dream, a perfect Polar Express, it is as though that Train's destiny was to make kids dreams come true each year in December. Now watch it, and you will understand why. AND when he shows up, and CHRISTMAS EVE, they climb all over one another to get a look!! Not to mention, this is their big day, what they have worked for all year, so OF COURSE they are going to PARTY like it's 1999 after he leaves and all was a success. Oh sure, they have seen him before, some have even talked with him, SOME are lucky enough to be his right hand Elves and work with the big guy everyday. He is not available to all of them, he is very very important, their head honcho! He is their rock star, their icon, the man they love, respect, and cherish. And Santa? When he shows up, it is like the President is in town. ![]() With cobblestone streets that wind between, a rail track connecting buildings for shipping purposes, and thousands of elves making the toys. This is how the North Pole really would be, a beautiful little factory town. My favorite movie North Pole ever is from The Polar Express.
